In this broadcast, traditional British singer John Roberts and thespian Judy Staber talk about the history of the British music hall. Roberts, Staber, Lincoln Mayorga, Amanda Boyd-Grout, Ted Pugh and Sheri Bauer-Mayorga will present, "An Evening of British Music Hall," Oct 2 through 4 at the Spencertown Academy, sponsored by PS21. Roberts is an English musician best known for his musical collaborations with Tony Barrand. As Roberts and Barrand, they perform a cappella and accompanied performances of traditional English folk music. They also perform and record sea shanties of the North Atlantic, and an album of traditional drinking songs. The duo is also half of "Nowell Sing We Clear." Staber was born in London, during World War II. Her father was the manager of The Duke of York’s Theatre and her mother was an actress. She is the former executive director of The Spencertown Academy. While there, she founded The PantoLoons, a troupe of local actors who, each Thanksgiving since 2000, have put on an original British/American Panto. After she retired from the Academy in 2004, the PantoLoons moved to The Ghent Playhouse where Staber now serves on the Board. She is the author of Silverlands: Growing up at the Actors’ Orphanage. Staber curates the art gallery at The Old Chatham Country Store and serves on the Board of the Chatham Education Foundation. Monday Musical Matinee draws on 1,000 years of music categorized as "classical" and "jazz." Hosted by Sheri Bauer-Mayorga.
