The Daily Freeman is reporting the New York City Department of Environmental Protection recently announced more than 2,600 acres of city-owned property across its upstate watershed were opened for recreational use in 2016. The newly opened land is located in Ulster, Greene and Delaware counties, the department said. Among the DEP land opened last year: In Greene County, 448 acres in the existing Halcott Center recreational area in Halcott; and the new Lanes Brook recreational area in Hunter, which is 135 acres.
