In the early morning hours of July 14, 1926, a fire broke out in the 265-room Swiss Chalet-style Twilight Inn located in Twilight Park in Haines Falls. Flames quickly consumed the all-wooden structure, despite the efforts of mountaintop fire departments to contain the fire. The story of the Twilight Inn fire and its heroes will be told by Twilight Cottager, Joanne Ainsworth and Town of Hunter Historian, Dede Terns Thorpe, through old photographs, local and national newspaper articles, and an oral history from a survivor of the fire.
