Aug 25, 2016 6:00 am

The Daily Freeman is reporting Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has announced he will campaign for 19th Congressional District hopeful Democrat Zephyr Teachout this fall. Sanders said, “In our campaign, there was an enormous amount of energy and grassroots activism. Obviously I do not want to see that dissipate. I want to see that level of energy continue, at all levels of government from the school board to the United States Senate.” Sanders lost his bid for the Democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton. He told The Associated Press he would stump for Democrat Teachout, who is competing with Kinderhook Republican John Faso to succeed U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson. Teachout is a Dutchess County resident and a professor at Fordham Law School. Faso is a Kinderhook resident and former minority leader of the state Assembly. Speaking about the presidential race, Sanders on Wed., Aug. 24, urged those who supported him in the Democratic primary not to defect to the Green Party’s Jill Stein or Libertarian Gary Johnson. Sanders said it is also important that Democrats regain control of the Senate. He said, “I think there’s a reasonable chance that that can happen. I’ll be as active as I can.” Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
