Apr 20, 2018 12:33 pm
Audrey Matott reports in the Greenville Pioneer that the Greenville schools tentative budget of $30,567,000 will go before voters May 15. That is an increase of 1.99 percent, under the state tax cap. The budget has some funds for a possible football team, that would be part of Catskill's team, which recently merged with Cairo-Durham. There is also money in the budget for a possible School Resource Officer, although that has not been confirmed. The Greenville Board of Education hosted a safety forum recently where some parents wanted a police officer on school grounds, "but [the board also discussed looking into other safety alternatives, and may seek further professional advisement on the matter," according to the story. Greenville hosts a budget hearing at 7 p.m. May 1 at the GCS Middle/High School Auditorium with voter registrationfrom 3-7 p.m. May 2 at Scott M. Ellis Elementary and voting from 1-9 p.m. May 15 at Scott M. Ellis Elementary. Read the full story in the Greenville Pioneer.
