U.S. Senate passes robocall legislation

The Rochester-based ABC affiliate, WHAM-TV, is reporting the U.S. Senate has passed legislation aimed at fighting robocall scammers. The so-called TRACED Act would allow the FCC to fine scammers and extend the period allowed for prosecution. The measure also calls for telecommunications companies to use call authentication technology to recognize a robocall before a phone even rings. In a statement, Sen. Charles Schumer praised passage of the legislation and called on the House of Representatives to do so as well, as soon as possible.
