Daniel Zuckerman is reporting in The Daily Mail members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church gathered on the steps of the historic structure on Bridge Street in Catskill last week, on the National Day of Prayer, as part of an ongoing effort to revitalize and save the church. Sixteen parishioners and members of the Friends of St. Pat’s group, including Greene County Legislator Matt Luvera, read from the Rosary on the church steps. Friends of St. Pat's co-leader Deb Johnson said the prayer session was intended to help further the group's campaign to reopen the church. The group will now hold prayer sessions on the first Thursday of every month beginning at 5:15 p.m., on the steps of the church, Johnson said. The group is awaiting approval of its 501(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue Service, but in the meantime the members continue to raise funds to support the restoration effort.
