Matthew Hamilton with the Times Union has a preview at Capitol Confidential of an upcoming interview with former U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson, scheduled to air Fri., Oct. 6. The former Republican congressman from Kinderhook has outlined his vision for changing government and political culture in the book, "Rally Point: Five Tasks to Unite the Country and Revitalize the American Dream." In his conversation with "New York NOW," Gibson said he believes the country is currently at a crossroads. "For the 21st century, we need to rediscover the founding principles that were inherent in our Declaration of Independence and in our Constitution that really were designed to allow us to enjoy peaceful, evolutionary change," Gibson said. "...We have moved away from this process of working together to change the law through the people’s representatives and we increasingly put power inside the executive branch," he said. Under those circumstances, Gibson said, the opposition party now automatically calls into question the legitimacy of any action taken. "It has torn us apart," he said. Gibson's book goes on sale Tue., Oct. 3. Read the full story in the Times Union.
