Orange Co. wants Stewart to be a Space Force monitoring center

The Mid-Hudson News Network is reporting officials in Orange County are looking to make New York Stewart International Airport a monitoring center for President Donald Trump's Space Force. Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus said the program's main facilities will likely be located at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and the Johnson Space Center in Texas, but monitoring locations are to be established around the country. Neuhaus said Stewart would be an ideal location because a New York Air National Guard base is there, and the property has one of the longest runways in the country. Long enough that Stewart was designated a backup landing site for the space shuttle program. The Space Force is the first new U.S. military service since the Air Force was established in 1947. The 16,000 service members and civilians who make up the Space Force are technically part of the Air Force. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
