Lawmakers push for Child Victims Act extension

Nick Reisman is reporting for the State of Politics blog four state lawmakers have called on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to support a measure that would extend the look-back period under the Child Victims Act. The measures makes it possible for survivors and victims of sexual abuse to take legal action, even if the abuse was alleged to have happened decades ago. The look-back period is currently scheduled to lapse in August if it is not extended. Advocates for the extension have for the last several weeks called for broader attention to the legislation while also arguing the measure needs to be extended so more people are aware of it. The bill under consideration would extend the window for another year.
