County legislature sets public hearings on shared services

May 19, 2017 8:00 am

Daniel Zuckerman is reporting in The Daily Mail Greene County lawmakers voted Wed., May 17, to hold three public hearings to gather comment on Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s shared services initiative. The governor's plan, which was contained in the adopted state budget, directs counties statewide to investigate the possibility of consolidating duplicate services. Greene County Administrator Shaun Groden has been tasked with gathering the county's 14 town supervisors and five village leaders as a committee to discuss the county's options. The committee met for the first time last week and discussed animal control, legal services and information technology, and if those services could be combined. A service that may not be consolidated is law enforcement. The towns want their own police departments despite the presence of state police and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Groden said. The Legislature set three public hearings: May 30 at the Greene County Office Building in the legislature chambers, June 6 at the Emergency Services Building in Cairo, and on June 13 at the Windham Centre Building. The consolidated services committee must file a report with the state on the county's efforts by August 1. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
