Mary Hatton takes husband's place representing Athens
Daniel Zuckerman is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Mary Hatton, wife of the late Greene County Legislator Gene Hatton, has taken the District 3 seat representing Athens, through the end of the year. She was sworn in Mon., Sep. 25. Hatton now has 30 days to sign an affidavit and be officially sworn in by the county clerk or attorney, Greene County Administrator Shaun Groden said. She has been attending legislature meetings for the past two weeks, observing how lawmakers work. Hatton is employed full-time as a English-language instructor at Catskill Elementary School, so her ability to participate in county meetings may be limited. Mary Hatton will serve until Jan. 1, 2018. Republican Ed Bloomer and Democrat Lee Palmateer, face off in a November special election to serve out the remainder of Gene Hatton's term.
