The Hudson City School District Board of Education accepted a purchase offer on the former Greenport Elementary School at its meeting, Mon., July 15. Mark Solomon, characterized by board President Kelly Frank as a resident of the area, offered $400,000 for the parcel, which includes a school building and 20 acres of land, located on Route 66 in Greenport. The property was valued at approximately $900,000 in 2009. The Greenport campus formerly housed grades 3 and 4. It was closed at the end of the 2008-09 school year. However, the district's Alternative Learning Program remained housed in modular units located behind the former elementary school for an additional year before it was closed. The property has been vacant for three years. The building purchase must be approved by district voters.
