Coxsackie receives funding for new town garage

Jan 17, 2017 7:00 am

Melanie Lekocevic is reporting in The Daily Mail the town of Coxsackie has received a $500,000 grant for the construction of a new town highway garage. The award was secured by state Sen. George Amedore through the State and Municipal Facilities program, which is administered by the New York State Dormitory Authority. The program is intended to help local and municipal governments with capital and infrastructure projects. "The current facility is inadequate, outdated, and has come to the end of its useful life," Amedore said of the current garage, which houses town vehicles like trucks and snow plows. The garage project has been in development for approximately 10 years and during that time has undergone numerous design changes. The new structure will replace a building that was built in the 1930s and is now in poor condition. The site for the garage is on a parcel of town-owned land on Bailey Street, but the project is on hold while the state Department of Environmental Conservation considers wetlands mitigation for the site.
