Faso votes, again, for hurricane aid

Sep 08, 2017 1:30 pm
Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook) voted with the majority of representatives on Sept. 8, 316-90, to approve both hurricane aid and an extension of the country's debt limit. Faso reluctantly supported the measure, though. The day before he told The Daily Mail, “I’m disappointed. A three-month agreement creates the prospect of a massive train wreck around the holidays,” Faso said. “I was surprised Trump agreed to it and I think he made a mistake. Short-term extenders feel like work not done.” Trump sided with Democrats, choosing to approve the $15.3 billion in disaster aid and extending the debt ceiling, though not for as long as Republicans wanted. Earlier in the week, Faso voted for another version of the hurricane aid bill that was not tied to debt relief. The new bill was also passed by the Senate and heads to the president's desk. New York Senator Chuck Schumer, who brokered the deal with Trump, crowed on Twitter, “The nation can breathe a sigh of relief. We’ve agreed to help those recovering from Hurricane Harvey, avoid default and avoid a shutdown.”
