This annual award includes a $30,000 cash prize as a commission for a new work of art to be realized within two years. In addition, the winner is given residency time at the invitation-only Hermitage Artist Retreat, a premier performance by a professional arts organization on the two-year anniversary of the award and assistance in helping to have the new work programmed for future performances. Previte beat out some impressive semi-finalists, in composers Don Byron, Tyshawn Sorey and Julia Wolfe. The prize will be presented Sat., April 18, in Sarasota, Florida.
