Chatham village planning board green lights new theater building

Emilia Teasdale is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Chatham Village Planning Board met September 23, to review and approve plans for a new single-screen movie theater at 4 Depot Square. The building to be constructed will face the train station that houses a branch of Community Bank, and next to the Herrington's building supply store. The theater will be built by Jack Shear and run by the Crandell Theatre, a non-profit organization. The new theater is intended to supplement the Crandell's existing offerings. and part of a plan to complete the renovation of the historic, larger theater, at 48 Main Street. The Depot Square building will have about 11 rows of seats as well as a lobby. The planning board waved the parking requirements for the project and voted unanimously to approve the site plan. All four board members were present. Aaron Gaylord, who represented Shear at the meeting and is responsible for the construction, said they hoped to have the project completed within a year.
