State police issue more than 13,000 tickets over Memorial Day weekend

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's office June 4, announced the New York State Police issued more than 13,000 tickets and arrested 225 people for impaired driving over the Memorial Day weekend. The STOP-DWI initiative targeted impaired and reckless drivers from May 24, through May 27. "Our message is simple: If you choose to drive after drinking or using drugs, you will be held accountable," Cuomo said in a press release. The 54-hour campaign was partially funded by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee. During the holiday weekend, state police arrested 225 people for DWI and investigated 134 personal injury crashes, which resulted in 190 people being injured in addition to four fatalities. Troopers also issued tickets for speeding, distracted driving, and violations of the seatbelt and move over laws. Read the full press release at governor [dot] ny [dot] gov.
