Michael Ryan is reporting in the Windham Journal Prattsville is in line for federal bridge replacement money. Town board members were told at a meeting, Mon., Feb. 10, the funds are expected to be earmarked for the rebuilding of the Route 23 bridge, which crosses the Schoharie Creek. At that time the final results of a Flood Hazard Mitigation Analysis done by the engineering firm of Milone and MacBroom were presented. The preliminary findings of that report were announced two years ago, five months after the flood waters of Tropical Storm Irene blasted through Prattsville's Main Street. The engineers found the Route 23 bridge is too small and recommended it be replaced. The estimated cost of the bridge replacement range from $12 million to $20 million. As many as 110 bridges statewide have been identified as requiring major maintenance, and the Route 23 bridge has been moved high up on that list, Ryan writes.
