Rhinebeck mayor wins Democratic primary

William J. Kemble is reporting for the Daily Freeman Rhinebeck Village Mayor Gary Bassett has defeated challenger John Rossi by a margin of more than 2 to 1 to win the Democratic mayoral primary. Rossi, a former village board member, was bested by Bassett 240 to 108. Bassett, 65, was appointed mayor in August 2015 and subsequently elected to full two-year terms in 2017 and 2019. Rossi, 63, was appointed to the village board in July 2017 and won a full two-year term the following year. He chose not to seek re-election last year. The village GOP has not yet announced a mayoral candidate for the March election. The winner of that race will serve a two-year term. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
