Woodstock protesters out against 5G wireless technology

May 16, 2019 12:35 am
Paul Kirby reports in the Daily Freeman that more than 30 protesters gathered in Woodstock May 15 to protest fast internet service. Organizers of the protest said they want the town board to adopt an ordinance stopping installation of 5G wireless technology in Woodstock. Steve Romine of Woodstock said the town needs to “protect its citizens and stand on the Constitution and go to court to prevent untested technology from [being forced] into this community." Some towns disagree with a Federal Communications Commission ruling last year that the federal government, and not local municipalities, will regulate the rollout of 5G technology. These protesters, out on the "National Day of Action to Stop 5G,” think the wavelengths 5G service uses are harmful to humans, plants, and animals. The World Health Organization says that "detailed reviews conducted so far have not revealed any hazard specific to different RF (radiofrequency) modulations." Many of the 5G frequencies cannot easily penetrate solid objects, like cars, trees and walls, but these protesters are worried about these radio waves bombarding human bodies. A May 12 New York Times story “Your 5G Phone Won’t Hurt You. But Russia Wants You to Think Otherwise” implied that Russians are spreading conspiracy theories on this issue.
