New York could lose a Congressional seat

Bill Mahoney reports in Politico New York New York will likely lose a Congressional seat in 2022, as population growth here has not kept pace with the nation. Politico predicts that the seat subtracted from New York will come from upstate. The Census count in 2020 will decide the number of Congressional seats in the state, and New York officials always complain the state is undercounted. That could be worse this year, with the Trump administration not bothering to fill many posts there. “The Census Bureau is at its lowest funding level at this point in the decade than at any other time in the past several decades,” said Jeff Wice, a fellow at SUNY Buffalo Law School who has worked with Senate Democrats in New York in past redistricting cycles.
