Dutchess County gets funds to fight gun violence

MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office, the Poughkeepsie police department and the county probation office have been awarded $343,000 by the state Department of Criminal Justice Services. The funds originate with the Gun Involved Violence Elimination grant that provides the resources for involved agencies to devote more time to the investigation and prosecution of gun crimes and gun-related violence. “The focus of the grant is public safety and this investment by the state has shown significant results,” District Attorney William Grady said. “[The][l]atest statistics show that during the last 10 years of this program, violent crime has decreased 50 percent, firearm crimes have dropped 52 percent and robberies have been reduced by 71 percent.” Read the full story at MidHudsonNews [dot] com.
