Sixth woman accuses Cuomo of sexual harassment
Mar 10, 2021 6:33 am
Brendan J. Lyons reports in the Times Union that a sixth woman came forward March 9 to accuse New York Governor Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment. The woman has not yet been publicly named, but was a member of the governor's Executive Chamber staff late last year when, she claims, Cuomo touched her without consent during an encounter at the governor's mansion. The woman's supervisors told the governor's counsel of the allegation on March 8, and the next day Cuomo denied any knowledge of the accusation during a news conference. Beth Garvey, acting counsel to the governor, said, "All allegations that we learn of directly or indirectly are going promptly to the investigators appointed by the attorney general." Cuomo did not deny touching the woman, but repeated his statement from last week that if he did, it was not "inappropriate." He said: "First, I’m not aware of any other claim. As I said last week, this is very simple: I never touched anyone inappropriately. … I never made any inappropriate advances ... (and) no one ever told me at the time that I made them feel uncomfortable. Obviously, there are people who said after the fact they felt uncomfortable." New York Attorney General Letitia James last week named two private attorneys: Joon H. Kim, a former acting U.S. attorney for New York's Southern District in Manhattan, and Anne L. Clark, who specializes in labor law and sexual harassment cases, to investigate the allegations against the governor. Read more about this story in the Times Union.
