Hunting, trapping classes available

Sporting licenses went on sale Aug. 13, and all new hunters or trappers who want one must first complete a mandatory hunter or trapper education course through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). To locate a nearby hunter or trapper education class, visits DEC's website and course list at: www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9191.html or contact a local DEC regional office. There are several soon in the WGXC listening area:

COLUMBIA COUNTY
KINDERHOOK Sept. 15, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Kinderhook Town Hall, County Rte. 28, Niverville. Trapping class. You must pre-register by Sept. 12 by calling Jerry at 518-784-3935 or Richard at 518-392-2062.

GREENE COUNTY
Hunting classes
WINDHAM Aug. 25 and 26, 9-3 p.m. both days at Windham Town Hall. Hunting class. Call Ed Shanley at 518-734-5085. Class size is limited to 20 students. You must attend all sessions.
HUNTER Sept. 15-16 at Catskill Mountain Fish and Game Club, Hunter. Hunting class. Call Jim at 518-589-6580 or Bob at 518-589-9946 to register. All students must pick up workbooks at the club on Sept. 6 between 7-9 p.m.

ULSTER COUNTY
Trapping class
ELLENVILLE Oct. 13, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Ulster Heights Rod and Gun Club, 244 Sherman Rd., Ellenville. Call Walt at 845-564-7192 to pre-register.
