Jun 14, 2019 3:30 pm
The Greenville Pioneer is reporting Columbia-Greene Community College has it announced it will waive tuition for some high school students taking college-level courses. To be eligible the student must income qualify and meet certain academic requirements. The program begins with the 2019-20 school year. George Timmons, Ph.D., vice president and dean of academic affairs at the college, said the offering is designed to provide even greater access to higher education for a more diverse set of students. "Getting an early start in college offers a competitive edge that is increasingly necessary in today‘s world, and this tuition waiver could help level the playing field," Timmons said. Students who meet the program‘s academic standards but fall outside of the income eligibility requirements for a tuition waiver may enroll in courses at a reduced tuition rate of $65 per credit hour, one-third of the standard in-state tuition rate.
