The Fivethirtyeight.com website reports that, so far, the first-term Congressperson Delgado votes with Donald Trump's positions 3.7 percent of the time. Since Democrats took over the House of Representatives Tonko also votes with Trump's positions 1.9 percent of the time. In the previous Congressional session, Tonko voted with Trump 22.6 percent of the time. Click here to play or download an audio version of this report.
• Emilie Munson reports in the Times Union that ahead of Veteran's Day this year local Congressional representatives were all atwitter about the work they are doing for those who served in the military. Reps. Antonio Delgado, a Democrat from Rhinebeck, and Elise Stefanik, a Republican from Schuylerville, announced Nov. 7 a bill for more federal funding for New York veterans' cemeteries. In Stefanik's northern 21st District, 8.9 percent of the population 18 years and older are veterans, and in Delgado's 19th Congressional District, 7.4 percent of the population 18 years and older are veterans. Delgado explained he is teaming with a Republican to try and fix something specific. "I was shocked to learn that a technical error in our laws prevents Ulster County and other counties in New York and across the country from accessing much-needed federal funding for its veterans’ cemeteries," Delgado said. "This prohibition severely cripples counties in states like New York that do not have state-operated veterans’ cemeteries, which is why I worked with my colleagues across the aisle and introduced a bill that fixes this problem and ensures local veterans’ cemeteries are properly funded." Stefanik is also crowing about another bipartisan bill passed in the U.S. House last week that she sponsored with Rep. Charlie Crist to create a grant program to develop and maintain special courts for rehabilitating veterans who commit non-violent crimes. Read more about this story in the Times Union.
• Chris McKenna is reporting for The Fray U.S. Reps. Antonio Delgado and Sean Patrick Maloney are among 37 House Democrats this week targeted in digital ads by conservative groups opposed to the impeachment of President Donald Trump. The American Action Network spent $2 million on the spots, urging the House member to “work on issues we care about” and dismissing the inquiry as a “partisan charade.” Release of the ads coincided with the start of the televised impeachment hearings on November 13, and provide like-minded readers with a link to their representatives. The targets are Democrats whose congressional districts Trump won in 2016. Maloney, who represents New York's 18th District, told supporters in a fundraising email this week that he was “already facing an onslaught of Republican attacks for standing up for our democracy,” and that “Republicans are spending in my district to try to stop us from getting to the truth.” Read the full story at The Fray.
• Cayla Harris reports in the Times Union that at least two Hudson Valley Congressional representatives and one candidate have seen a higher national profile since impeachment hearings began last week. Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney, who represents the 18th District in the southern Hudson Valley, and Republican Elise Stefanik, who represents the 21st District north of Albany, are on the intelligence committee asking questions during the hearings that are being broadcast on WGXC. Stefanik was involved in a stunt Nov. 15 where she demanded time to talk that was reserved for the chairs or counsel. She has added over 150,000 Twitter followers since the hearings began. But her opponent, Democrat Tedra Cobb, has added over 190,000 followers and says she has raised over $1 million in campaign contributions in three days. Stefanik is not saying how much she has raised, but her office Tweeted links to her fundraising page eight times last week. Stefanik beat Cobb, a former two-term St. Lawrence County legislator, in the 2018 election. Maloney has not been involved in any controversy with his questions during impeachment so far, and has been making himself available regularly on CNN and MSNBC. Reps. Antonio Delgado, and Paul Tonko, both Democrats, are not going out of their way to discuss the impeachment proceedings. But Delgado was asked about it at a town hall meeting Nov. 16 in Copake, broadcast on WGXC 90.7-FM. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD OR PLAY SHORT EXCERPT OF DELGADO IN COPAKE. • On Nov. 15 both Tonko and Delgado voted to reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank, a measure that passed 235-to-184.
• Paul Tonko does list any public events this week on his website. Antonio Delgado lists public appearances on his website only if his staff organizes the events. He has none listed this week.
