Pfister to seek election as Athens mayor

Melanie Lekocevic is reporting in The Daily Mail Democrat Chris Pfister has officially announced his run for Athens village mayor. Pfister is currently serving out the end of a three-year term representing Athens on the Greene County Legislature. Current Athens Mayor Andrea Smallwood, also a Democrat, has not yet indicated if she intends to run for re-election. Pfister previously served eight years on the village’s Board of Trustees as both a trustee and as deputy mayor under Smallwood. Pfister will be replaced in the Legislature by Republican Gene Hatton, Jan. 1. As mayor, Pfister said he will focus on providing the right climate for business development, and work to preserve the historic and unique character of the village.
