Chris McKenna is reporting at The Fray U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney is urging former "Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon to abandon her potential run against Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the upcoming Democratic primary. In comments made March 8, the Cold Spring Democrat praised the governor as a national leader on marriage equality who has earned the LGBTQ community's support. Maloney, New York’s first openly gay congressman, noted that Nixon is also a member of the LGBTQ community. He spoke in glowing and personal terms about Cuomo’s successful effort to legalize same-sex marriage in New York, and argued Cuomo had waged that crusade at some political peril at that time. Maloney also recalled Cuomo rallying the LGBTQ community’s support for legislators of either party who had voted for marriage equality, and said it should now show the same loyalty to Cuomo. He also cited Cuomo's work on to bring about the $15 minimum wage as well as paid family leave as evidence of Cuomo's status as a national progressive leader. Read the full post at The Fray.
