Hawkins likely to run for governor again

Mark Weiner reports at Syracuse.com that the Green Party's Howie Hawkins plans to run for governor again this year. Hawkins ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2010 and 2014 against Democrat Andrew Cuomo. He has ran for office 21 times, and lost each election. "I'm getting the pieces together," Hawkins told syracuse.com March 8. "At this point, I'm still a few weeks away. But likely I will announce to seek the Green nomination." Last year Hawkins lost a campaign for Syracuse mayor, finishing third out of five candidates, with four percent of the vote. He has been successful at one thing: in both elections for governor, Hawkins got more than 50,000 votes, the minimum needed to keep the Green Party on the ballot for state and local races for the past eight years.
