Rebecca Carballo is reporting for the Times Union New York had the largest number of reported anti-Semitic incidents in the country last year, according to an audit conducted by the Anti-Defamation League. The Manhattan-based anti-hate organization used reports from community members, news media and law enforcement to gather the data. New York had the greatest number of anti-Semitic incidents at 430, followed by New Jersey with 345 cases. Most of the New York cases happened in New York City's five boroughs, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said. In the Capital Region, the ADL noted the four times white supremacist propaganda was found in Troy last year. Alexander Rosemberg, ADL deputy regional director for New York  and New Jersey, said that only 38 of the 438 New York incidents occurred in regions north of Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties. “I think the reason for this is the need for better training and reporting on the part of law enforcement and individuals,” Rosemberg said. He reinforced that hate incidents need to be reported to law enforcement and organizations like the ADL to make sure they are investigated. The report found that nearly two-thirds of American Jews feel they are less safe today than they were a decade ago. More than half of American Jews have either experienced or witnessed an anti-Semitic incident. Read the full story in the Times Union.
