Large solar project proposed for Craryville

Feb 04, 2020 11:50 pm
Abby Hoover reports for Columbia-Greene Media that Hecate Energy announced Feb. 3 a solar energy project that would generate 110,000 MWh a year on 700 acres at Routes 23 and 7 in Craryville. The Shepherd’s Run Solar would connect to the existing Craryville substation on Route 23 if approved. “We are just in the very earliest stages of this new application, but it is important that the public be aware of this process at every step of the way,” Copake Town Supervisor Jeanne Mettler said. There would be temporary jobs with the project. Hecate says there would be over 200 construction jobs for a nine-to-12-months if the project is approved, and also some tax money for Copake. “We are very excited about Hecate’s Shepard’s Run Solar facility announcement,” said Anne Reynolds, executive director of the Alliance for Clean Energy New York. “We need more of these large-scale, high-quality projects like this one if we hope to come close to the renewable energy goals established to address global climate change.” Hecate Energy also has a proposal for a large solar project in southern Albany County called Coeymans Solar, and one called the Greene County Solar project in Coxsackie.
