GOP could cancel NY primary if Weld does not qualify for ballot

Bill Mahoney is reporting for Politico New York officials will decide this week whether to cancel the Republican presidential primary this year. Canceling the primary would guarantee that President Donald Trump wins every delegate from the state. Four Republicans submitted paperwork to appear on the ballot — Trump, Bill Weld, Rocky De La Fuente and Joe Walsh. To qualify a Republican candidate must submit the names of three delegates and three alternate delegates in each of the state's 27 congressional districts, for a total of 162 individuals. Neither De La Fuente nor Walsh submitted the names of any delegates, eliminating them from the race. Weld, the former governor of Massachusetts, submitted roughly half of what was required, so he has been given additional time to find the remaining number of state Republicans who might want to represent his campaign. Board of Elections Republican co-chair Peter Kosinski said a determination on Weld's eligibility will be made this week. If Weld does not qualify, Trump will automatically win the state and Democrats will be the only party holding a primary on April 28. Read the full story at Politico New York.
