Noah Zweifel reports in the Altamont Enterprise reports that Republican Berne Supervisor Sean Lyons won't seek re-election this year because he’s working for the federal government at the Watervliet Arsenal, and the Hatch Act prohibits certain federal employees from being candidates in a partisan election. Instead Lyon's deputy, Dennis Palow, will run for supervisor. Democrats are running Margaret Christman, a retired New York State Police lieutenant, for the position. The Hatch Act does not prohibit federal employees from holding office, just running in a campaign, so Lyons jobs as the cannon-chrome-plating facility manager for the United States Army’s Tank-automotive and Armaments Command at the Watervliet Arsenal won't affect his current term as supervisor in the southern Albany County town.
