Stuyvesant Dems make last-minute ballot change

Sep 25, 2013 1:00 am
Barbara Reina is reporting in the Register Star late changes to the Stuyvestant Democratic ballot for the upcoming November election were filed Tues., Sept. 24, with the Columbia County Board of Elections. Town Board candidate Peter Donahoe and highway superintendent candidate Martin Roby dropped out of their respective races because of a potential conflict with the Hatch Act. Both Donohoe and Roby are employed by state agencies that receive federal funding. Enacted in 1939, the Hatch Act curbs the partisan political activities of employees in federal, state and local governments. The law's goal is to enforce political neutrality among civil servants. Donahoe’s wife, Melanie, will take his place on the ballot. The Democrats will not have a challenger for the position of highway superintendent. Last month the Stuyvesant Democrats endorsed Lee Jamison for Town Supervisor, Ed Kiernan for town council, Nancy Thomas for town clerk/tax collector and Nancy Trichter and Ned Depew for town justice.
