MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon was in Kingston June 23, stumping for her bid to unseat incumbent Andrew Cuomo in the September Democratic primary. The Citizen Action rally drew several hundred to the Old Dutch Church community room. Nixon's politics are to the left of Cuomo's and she has been endorsed by the Working Families Party. In her remarks, Nixon slammed Cuomo, saying, "I voted for Cuomo eight years ago. I remembered his dad, and I believed that he was what he said he was — a Democrat. But since taking office, he has governed like a Republican, and given massive amounts of power over to the Republican Party." Nixon vowed to fight for universal health care, education, tenants rights, campaign finance reform, environmentalism, and the legalization of marijuana. She said her reforms would be paid for with a pollution tax, estimated raise $7 billion. Nixon also promised benefits and driver licenses to undocumented aliens. Among the local leaders introducing Nixon, was Hudson Common Council Majority Leader Tiffany Garriga. Read the full story at MidHudsonNews [dot] com.
