Here's the week in the news for Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook), the District 19 Congressperson for the WGXC listening area. • Anthony Fiducia is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Democrat Antonio Delgado was in Hudson Sun., Oct. 8, to make his case for why voters should choose him to face first-term Congressman John Faso in 2018. The gathering was held at a private residence on Union Street. Delgado is an attorney, born and raised in Schenectady. In his comments, he emphasized the importance of bringing opportunity back to the people, affordable health care, investment in infrastructure and solving the problem of inequality. • ProPublica breaks down the analytics on "What topics does Rep. John Faso talk about in his recent press releases more often than other members of Congress do?" The number one topic for Faso, a Republican from Kinderhook, is property taxes, a state issue. "Governor Cuomo" is the second most common subject of Faso's press releases, as the congressperson had a feud with Cuomo earlier this year about property taxes. The other most common subjects in Faso's press releases were "upstate new," "Hoosick Falls," "property tax reduction," "circuit rider," "climate solutions," and "Hudson River." • The "daily public schedule" of Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook) is usually blank. On the rare occasion when Faso does post an event, it is usually a few minutes before or after the event begins. There are currently seven Democrats who want to challenge Faso for New York's 19th Congressional District in 2018, and they also do not list most of their public events online. Jeff Beals, Steven Brisee, Dave Clegg, Antonio Delgado, Brian Flynn, Gareth Rhodes, and Pat Ryan all do not list any or many future public events online. None of the Democrats who want to challenge Faso even have a page on their websites for public events. A few use Facebook pages, but rarely post events beforehand. So, while Democrat Scott Murphy and Republican Chris Gibson both listed their public events when they held the office, there is little now to suggest such transparency from a local congressperson again anytime soon.

Robert Harding reports for The Auburn Citizen that the American Action Network, a Republican-aligned group, is running pro-tax cut ads in the 19th Congressional District and throghout central New York. They are targeting New York's Republican representatives including John Faso from Kinderhook. The group is spending $500,000 on a two-week digital advertising campaign on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other websites. So far, Faso has made one public comment on the tax cut plan proposed by the president that would eliminate the deduction for state and local property taxes. "I would certainly not be inclined to" vote for the legislation, Faso said on CNBC. But, he said, "It's very early in this process because we don't have many of the details." John Faso (R-Kinderhook) and some other members of the House Agriculture Committee listened to farmers Oct. 9 at SUNY Cobleskill about their concerns for the 2018 Farm Bill. Eric Ooms, a Kinderhook farmer and vice president for the New York Farm Bureau asked for for immigration reform to allow migrant farm workers to help. “Congratulations. You’re in Congress. You can fix that,” he said. A dairy farmer, Laurie Griffen of Saratoga Farm, wanted a more effective guest worker program. Other farmers mentioned dairy insurance issues, enforcement of organic regulations, and keeping food stamps in the Farm Bill. Faso did not list the event on his website.
