IDA rejects Kohl's tax break

Feb 05, 2010 4:33 pm
Carole Osterink of The Gossips of Rivertown reports:
"I just got back from the IDA meeting and can report that the Kohl's application has been rejected, mostly because the IDA felt twenty years was too long but also because they had misgivings about giving a PILOT to a retail business. Although it was not an official public hearing, they did invite comment. More details about the meeting to come."
The Register-Star reported this morning that the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee met at an unidentified date earlier this week and voted against supporting the county Industrial Development Agency’s approval of a Payment In Lieu of Taxes, or PILOT, agreement for a Kohl’s department store in Greenport in the new shopping center on Fairview Ave. that includes Wal-Mart and Lowe's.
UPDATE: Osterink's complete coverage of the IDA meeting is at ccScoop.
