Local protesters disagree about what the national emergency is

Feb 20, 2019 12:56 am
Mallory Moench reports in the Albany Times Union that some Hudson Valley residents used President's Day to protest the National Emergency declaration Donald Trump made Feb. 15 in order to get money to pay for a border wall. On Feb. 19, there were protests outside U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik's office in Glens Falls, and in Schenectady, Rhinebeck, Delmar, Beacon, and New Paltz. "There's no national emergency in terms of the wall. We have many other national emergencies - gun violence, student loan debt, climate change. The wall is not. It's a racist agenda he's promoting," said Trudy Quaif, a retired state worker protesting in Delmar with the Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace group. Read the full story in the Albany Times Union.
