Communities plan Independence Day celebrations

The Daily Freeman is reporting on local plans to celebrate the Independence Day holiday with various activities in the coming days.

In Greene County:

Catskill: A fireworks display will take place Sat., Jul. 2, at Dutchman’s Landing in the village. Parking will be permitted at Dutchman’s Landing until it reaches capacity. Parking will be allowed on Main Street until it reaches capacity. Beyond Green Street, there will be no parking signs posted on the even side of the road going toward Dutchman’s Landing. Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic at Henry Street. On River Street, no parking signs will be posted on both sides of the road. On Broad Street, no parking signs will be posted from the dead end to Henry Street, and only local parking will be allowed. Additionally, there will be no launching or loading of boats after 3 p.m. until after the fireworks end.

Tannersville: The parade will step off at 3 p.m. Sat., Jul. 2, from the Sunoco store near Tops Market on state Route 23A. The parade will then proceed to the Tannersville Fire House, where refreshments will be served. There will also be vendors and music in the village between noon and 4 p.m. Additionally, the Colonial Country Club on Main Street will host an event from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., featuring craft beers, barbecue, kids activities, a driving range, vendors, horse-drawn hayrides and other activities. Fireworks will begin at dusk.

In Columbia County:

Clermont: Clermont State Historic Site will host its annual Old-Fashioned Independence Day Festival beginning at 2 p.m. Mon., Jul. 4. The mansion will be open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for free self-guided tours and children’s contests, including three-legged races, cherry pit spitting, and grinning for cheese starting at 5:15 p.m. A live reading of the Declaration of Independence will take place at 6 p.m. Information is available at the Clermont State Historic Site’s Facebook page.

Germantown: The town will hold its annual Independence Day Celebration with fireworks, Sat., Jul. 2, at 50 Palatine Park Road. There will be children’s activities, including a “Birds of Prey” demonstration with live raptors, bounce houses and entertainment by clowns and magicians. In Ulster County:

Saugerties: A parade will step off at 11 a.m. Mon., Jul.. 4, from Washington Avenue near Saugerties High School. The parade will makes it way through the village and end at Cantine Field. Fireworks will be held at dusk.

Wawarsing/Ellenville: The annual parade steps off at noon Mon., Jul. 4, on Canal Street in the village. Fireworks will follow at dusk at the Joseph Y. Resnick Airport.
