HudsonValley360.com reports that PS21 in Chatham opens its black box theater April 14. For 12 years the arts organization has put on contemporary dance, classical and roots music, and live theater events in the summer months under a concert tent. The new facility is an extraordinary leap from tent to fully equipped professional theater. Most of the property is the former Macintosh Farm, which grew apples. The new theater includes a 40’x60’ performance space and seats up to 99. Some building walls also slide open to create a 300-seat open-air pavilion theater. Those walls will open for the first time on June 30. The theater also includes a green room, dressing rooms, a small kitchen, gift shop, ticket office, offices for staff, and an elevator.
