The Daily Freeman is reporting four Hudson antiques dealers have been accused of selling elephant ivory and other banned animal products. The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced that almost 100 items were seized from the four dealers, including items made from elephant hide, a sawtooth fish bill, a crocodile head and a large sea turtle's shell, in addition to the ivory, with a total retail value in excess of $15,000. Store owners Richard Kazarian, of Kazarian Antiques, 602 Warren St.; Joseph Ribar, of White Whale Limited, 410 Warren St.; Jim Marinaccio, of NAGA Antiques, 536 Warren St.; and Lauren Guion, of The Warehouse, 99 Third St., currently face felony charges. All were arraigned June 26, before Hudson City Judge John Connor. If convicted each faces a fine of up to $10,000, and up to four years in state prison. State environmental police officers initiated an undercover investigation a month ago into the illegal sale of elephant ivory and other wildlife products in Hudson, according to a DEC press release. It is illegal in New York to sell or attempt to sell products made from endangered or threatened species without a license to do so. With a permit, the law allows for limited exceptions on products such as antiques, at least 100 years old, and anything containing less than 20 percent ivory, the department said.
