Seven arrests as bow season begins

The Daily Freeman is reporting during the first two days of bow hunting season, seven hunters were arrested and charged with various violations of state hunting regulations in Greene County, according to the Region 4 director of the state Department of Environmental Conservation. Regional Director Gene Kelly said most violations were for hunting deer or bear using bait. He said some hunters place a pile of food in the woods weeks before hunting season opens to get wildlife accustomed to frequenting the “bail pile.” When the season opens, the hunter waits at the bait pile for the animal to come along, a practice that is unethical and illegal, Kelly said.
