Born in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia, Jared Buckhiester moved to New York in 1995 and began exhibiting drawings in 2006. The subject matter of Buckhiester’s work originates in the autobiographical, but it quickly becomes fragmented and reshaped, pointing to larger social narratives. His drawing practice varies from a tightly rendered illustration, to a wet pooling of watercolor. New layers of meaning are evoked through this juxtaposition which extends out into the other incorporated media, including ceramic, photography, and video. In 2015, working collaboratively with fellow artist Dani Leventhal, he completed Hard as Opal, a 30-minute video which will be included in the 2017 Whitney Biennial. He will be exhibiting at the John Davis Gallery in Hudson from February 4-26. Hosted by Chad Weckler.
