Catskill voters reject fire district

Jim Planck reports in the Daily Mail, the plan for a consolidated fire district to serve both the Village of Catskill and that part of the Town of Catskill currently served under contract to the village was rejected by voters, Tues., Aug. 28. While the referendum to create the Catskill Joint Fire Protection District was approved by voters in the village 121-111, the plan was rejected by town voters, 117-77. The referendum required approval from both voting blocks to carry. The proposal would have created a single district, independent of either village or town, and governed by five elected fire commissioners, with an autonomous budget.
