Kinderhook hears ideas for Volunteer Park

Emilia Teasdale reports for the Columbia Paper that the Town of Kinderhook's Volunteer Park was expanded last year with the state turning over neighboring 77.9 acres, and was the talk of the town's Aug. 5 meeting. The Northern Columbia Little League asked to rebuild the snack bar and storage area at the town park. Supervisor Pat Grattan sent Tom Banks, a volunteer coach for the NCLL and a local contractor, to the Recreation Committee to discuss his shed proposal, but agreed a new building is due. “It’s past it’s prime,” he said of the current shed. Meanwhile, the town’s Trail Committee wants to build lean-tos on the land Kinderhook took control of last year. Committee member Mark Browne said want to put one to three lean-tos on the property for the local Boy Scout troops to use, at a cost about $8,000 each. The board did make at least one decision, changing the date of its next meeting from Labor Day to September 9 at 7 p.m. in the Martin H. Glynn Municipal Building.
