Nov 18, 2019 2:00 pm
Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Greene County lawmakers are scheduled to meet Mon., Nov. 18, to discuss change orders to the new jail facility in Coxsackie, and for the planned demolition of the former jail in Catskill. Construction of the 80-cell, 64-bed facility is currently underway off Route 9W in Coxsackie. The new jail will be divided into three pods: a pod with 16 beds for women, a pod with 32 beds for men, and an additional 16-bed pod also for men. Deputy Greene County Administrator Warren Hart now estimates the state Environmental Quality Review for demolition of the old jail will be completed sometime this month. Once the review is finished, the county will need another month to put the project out to bid, Hart said. The jail complex and the sheriff’s office are slated for demolition, while the historic carriage house will remain intact. Once the jail building is leveled, the site, on Bridge Street in Catskill, will be made into a parking lot. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
