Skelos corruption conviction overturned

Matthew Hamilton reports in Capitol Confidential that the corruption conviction of former Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos was overturned Sept. 26 by a federal appeals court. His case now goes back to a lower court for re-trial. The conviction of Skelos’ son Adam was also overturned. Former Assembly leader Sheldon Silver had his corruption conviction overturned, for similar reasons, earlier in the year. Both courts ruled that jury instructions were flawed in light of a U.S. Supreme Court decision that narrowed the definition of an “official act” taken in return for something.
