SUNY Ulster, Bard College announce commencement plans
The Daily Freeman is reporting SUNY Ulster President Alan P. Roberts will preside over the school's 57th commencement on Sat., May 15, in a prerecorded virtual ceremony. The community college will offer several options for graduates and their families. An electronic version of the program will display photos of all the 2021 graduates. The prerecorded commencement can be viewed on the college’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. Afterward, the video will be posted on the college's commencement web page and on YouTube. For graduates who preregister, SUNY Ulster also will host a drive-through diploma ceremony on its Stone Ridge campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 15. Social distancing and other COVID-related health and safety protocols will be followed, according to the college. Graduates also can choose to participate in a safe diploma delivery option in which Roberts will visit their homes. SUNY Ulster’s class of 2021 is made up of 406 students. Of those, 354 will receive associate's degrees and 91 will receive certificates. The youngest graduate is 16, and the oldest is 64. Bard College will hold its 161st commencement Sat., May 29, on its campus in Northern Dutchess County. The ceremony will take place under the commencement tent on the Seth Goldfine Memorial Rugby Field. Attendance will be limited to graduating students. The event will be live-streamed so family and friends can view it. Patrick Gaspard, a former president of the Open Society Foundations and director of the White House Office for Political Affairs from 2009 to 2011, will deliver the commencement address. Bard College President Leon Botstein will confer 398 undergraduate degrees and 136 graduate degrees. Read more in the Daily Freeman.
