Upstate counties now have same voting hours as rest of the state

Paul Kirby reports in the Daily Freeman that Ulster County's Democratic commissioner of elections Ashley Dittus will have to work longer hours on primary election day, but she's happy about it. State lawmakers made voting times uniform around the state, and now primary polls will open at 6 a.m., instead of the current starting time of noon. Dittus said the expanded primary election hours will provide "a better service to the voters who often get upset that they cannot vote early, like they do in November." After this coming primary election in June, all future elections will nine days of early voting too. State lawmakers also mandated three hours of paid time off for all voters on Election Day.
